The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is a major structure in the knee joint and its main function is to resists anterior tibial translation and rotational loads. ACL is one of the most frequently injured structures during high impact or sporting activities. The ACL connects the thighbone (femur) to shinbone (tibia) thus helping to stabilize knee joint.

The ACL does not heal when torn and surgical reconstruction is done. Main purpose of reconstruction surgery is to restore the movement and stability of the knee as well as to prevent future degenerative problems.
