The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is a major structure in the knee joint and its main function is to resists anterior tibial translation and rotational loads. ACL is one of the most frequently injured structures during high impact or sporting activities. The ACL connects the thighbone (femur) to shinbone (tibia) thus helping to stabilize knee joint. The ACL does  not heal when torn and surgical reconstruction is done. Main purpose of reconstruction surgery is to restore the movement and stability of the knee as well as to prevent future degenerative problems. Never ignore your knee pain.   The ACL injury is a tear or sprain of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). It is one of the major ligaments in knee. ACL injuries are most commonly occur during playing sports such as soccer, basketball, football and downhill skiing which involve sudden stops or changes in direction, jumping, impact and landing. The function of ACL is to prevent the tibia from sliding out i n front of the femur as well as provides rotational stability to the knee. When the ACL is injured, the surrounding ligaments and cartilage are also sprained. Treatment is depending on the severity of the ACL injury. Common treatments include rest and rehabilitation exercises to regain strength, stability and surgery to replace the torn ligament.
